Sephiroth is the main villian in Final Fantasy VII. He possesses super-human strength, given to him by Jenova cells injected by the Shinra's Professor Hojo. His creation was made possible by Professor Gast, Aeris' father, a true scientific genius who was researching the Ancients and their history.

Sephiroth was conceived by Hojo and Lucrecia, the woman Vincent fell in love with (see Vincent's profile for the whole story). While Sephiroth was still in Lucrecia's womb, he was injected with the cells of Jenova. Jenova is a huge creature that fell to earth from outer space, creating the giant crater and ultimately destroying most of the Ancients (see Aeris' profile for more information about the Ancients). The evil blood from Jenova transformed him into a super-human, with incredible strength and fighting ability.

Later on in his life, Sephiroth joined SOLDIER and quickly became first class. During his trip to the Nibel Reactor (see Cloud's profile), Sephiroth discovered many monster-like creatures being created inside the reactor. He also found a large tank which was curently storing Jenova. Sephiroth had been told that his mother's name had been Jenova and this discovery made him begin to dig for answers. In the research library in the Shinra Mansion, he found material that logged the entire past of the Ancients and himself. Sephiroth realized who he really was and the information caused him to snap. As Sephiroth had Jenova's blood coursing through his veins, he believed himself to be an Ancient as well (Jenova had been said to be of Ancient blood by Professor Gast). He set out to destroy the human race that, in his mind, had betrayed the Cetra and went to the Nibel Reactor to retrieve Jenova, burning down Nibelheim and killing many people on his way. He freed Jenova from the preservation tube she was being stored in, but he was defeated by Cloud in battle and disappeared for many years. The Shinra reported him dead.

Five years after the Nibelheim incident, Sephiroth resurfaced and murdered President Shinra and many others at Shinra HQ. The Shinra had been after the Promised Land, the place that the Ancients had been promised to find at the end of their journey, so they could suck all the Mako energy out of it. Sephiroth was angry with them for trying to take what belonged to the Ancients. He was after the land himself because he wanted to absorb the energy there and become a higher being. Soon afterwards, at the Temple of the Ancients, Sephiroth found the Black Materia, which he could use to cast the summon Meteor spell. He now plans to create a huge tear in the earth using Meteor and then suck up all the energy that the Planet's Lifestream would have to put forth to mend the tear. Now its up to Cloud and the others to stop him . . . before time runs out.
