About Emerald Weapon

Emerald WEAPON is the first of two extremely powerful WEAPON creatures added to the American version of Final Fantasy VII. He can be found swimming around near the ocean floor after you steal the Shinra submarine. You'll want to avoid him while your levels are still low, but you can initiate combat with him anytime by driving your submarine into him.

What To Equip

First of all, if you want to have any chance of beating Emerald WEAPON, you will need the Underwater Materia. This will eliminate the 20 minute time limit when facing him and give you a fighting chance. You can get this Materia after Meteor is summoned. First, go to the Junon Underwater Reactor and morph a creature called the Ghost Ship into an item called a Guidebook. The Ghost Ship looks like a skeleton riding in a pirate boat. Now go and talk to the man upstairs in one of the houses in Kalm, the Kalm traveller, and give him the Guidebook. In return, he will give you the Underwater Materia.

Next, you will need to have all of your characters equipped with enough HP Plus and MP Plus Materia to have all of their HP at 9999 and MP at 999. These Materia can be bought in Cosmo Canyon. They raise more HP and MP as they grow levels, so may need to get every one to grow a couple of levels or equip each character with more than one of each Materia.

You also must have the Knights of the Round summon Materia (if you don't know how to get this, see my section on Gold Chocobos). To raise this spell's power, you may want to link MP Turbo, HP Absorb, or MP Absorb to it. In addition, you will need three Mime Materia (again, see my section on Gold Chocobos). However, you can only get one from the Materia caves, so you will need to master it in order to get another one, and then master that one to have a third one born. I found that the best place to gain AP for these Materia is in the jungle around Mideel. Equipping the materia you want to master on either Cloud's or Cid's triple growth weapon will help speed up the process.

Another absolutely necessary Materia for this battle is W Summon. You can get it from the Battle Arena in the Gold Saucer after you get 64 000 BP. It takes a while to get, but if you equip Ribbon on your fighter, you will have a much better chance and will get this amount of BP much faster. Equip this Materia on the same person who has Knights of the Round equipped.

When you go into battle, have everyone equipped with a Mime, one character equipped with the Barrier-All combination, another equipped with the Cure-All combination, and the last equipped with the Time-All combination. Time, Cure, and Barrier should be mastered, or have all of their spells gained already.

Lastly, you'll probably want to have everyone equipped with double or triple growth weapons to take full advantage of the AP gained at the end of battle.

 

The Battle

The first thing you should do when facing Emerald WEAPON is to cast Wall, Haste, and Regen on everyone in the party. This will increase your chances of winning by a lot. Now, use your strongest spells and summons until your character who is equipped with Knights of the Round gets his turn. Use Knights of the Round. Then, keep using Mime with every other character to repeat this summon spell until Emerald WEAPON is dead. Don't stop, no matter what. I can't stress this enough. Even if every character but one dies, do not stop. Even if you get all your Limit Breaks and want to use them, do not stop. Even if you think you need to heal a character, do not stop. If you break the chain of Knights of the Round, you will not have enough MP to summon it again, and by the time you bring that character's MP back up to a point where you can, Emerald WEAPON will be using his ultimate attack, which deals 9999 points of damage to every character.

After you beat Emerald WEAPON, you will receive an item called the Earth Harp. Take this to the Kalm Traveller, the person you got Underwater Materia from, and he will reward you with all three Master Materia.
