The magic system in Final Fantasy VII is based on a substance called Materia. These objects are small orbs that can be put into slots on the characters' weapons and armour. Once equipped, Materia gives characters the ability to cast spells and gives them special abilities. These orbs gain levels through battling enemies and gaining Ability Points. As they gain levels, they grant your characters new abilities. However, Materia adjusts characters' statistics, some for better and some for worse.

There are five different types of Materia: Green, Red, Blue, Yellow and Purple. Each type grants you different abilities. In this section, you will find a list and description of all the Materia in the game.
